At the heart of the wildlife's migration

Because of its geographical situation, the Region of Rhone-Alpes plays an major role in the migration of the fauna within the alpine space. This is the case for this part of France but also for Italy, Germany, Austria, Swiss, Slovenia,... Moutaineous and wooded massifs and the Rhone valley are of major importance in the migration roads of european fauna.: the colonization of the lynx coming from Switzerland, the wolf coming from Italy, the migrations of the ibex, the otter, birds of prey (golden eagle, bearded vulture,...) prove this phenomena. Other examples, less spectacular (insects, bats, plants,...) are also of importance for the natural balance.

Thus if the Region of Rhone Alpes allows the free move of the fauna on its territory, it also ensures the survival of the alpine fauna and flora by letting to move south and east of Europe.

The cooperation between the departments is also essential to establish the links between the pre-alpine massifs and to allow the crossing along the valley of the Rhone. The work of the Region Rhone Alpes to establish a cartography of the ecological network on the regional scale helps this cooperation, as well as the participation of teh general council to the meetings organised by the general council of Savoie about the future corridors agreement of Metropole Savoie.
